2014 The Philosopher
We chose to step away from the traditional approach to explore new varietal combinations. From there, the winemaking team continued to tinker and tweak, blending varietals not usually made together in traditional wine landscape.Classic Cabernet aromas of black cherry, plum and violets, along with toffee, mocha, with hints of vanilla bean. Mouth-filling palate with ripe cassis, cacao, cigar box and blueberries. Nicely balanced acidity in a full-bodied wine, with well integrated tannins.
75% Cabernet Sauvignon
4% Petit Verdot
Naturally, we encountered more questions than answers when it came to creating a label for The Philosopher. Our winemaker, convinced that the wine speaks for itself, advocated for no label at all. Well that isn't legal, so we set off in search of an artistic solution to our existential dilemma. We discovered an intriguing algorithm, one that generated meandering patterns with no end, matching question for question the deep genius of this wine. To complete our quest we turned to our favorite philosophers, gleaned data from their life histories, and merged it with our algorithm. The resulting art reveals the mysteries of truth and beauty captured by The Philosopher.
