Reading Between the Vines

Kim Westerman - Senior Contributor- Forbes.com

During this strange time when we can’t readily access the wineries we love to visit, several Napa properties are going beyond the typical Zoom online tasting and tour to incorporate parallel experiences that dovetail with the enjoyment of fine wine. Goosecross Cellars is offering a live art class; The Wine Foundry is launching a weekly book club; and Hall Wines (along with partner wineries Walt and Baca) is hosting a virtual happy hour multiple times a week across Hall’s social media channels with celebrity guests.

These are several of the rare occasions in which you can have a virtual experience beyond that which you’d be able to book with a face-to-face visit.

Inquisitive Sips: Fatal Attraction - Episode 1

Our next series,  “Fatal Attraction: How Cabernet Sauvignon was Born.”  We will first look into the unlikely parents of Cabernet Sauvignon, with Foundry Cabernet Franc from Stagecoach Vineyard, plus Foundry Sauvignon Blanc from Morgaen Lee Vineyard. Refined and beautiful, these wines will have us puzzling over their powerful and showy offspring, during the following week’s session on May 8th.  That second week, we swirl, sip, and ponder our full bodied Foundry Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and lip-smacking Foundry Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon.

Get In On The Latest Wine Trend: Virtual Tastings

Kim Westerman Senior Contributor, Forbes

One of the things I miss most about the freedom to leave my house — don’t get me wrong, I’m deeply grateful to be able to safely shelter-in-place — is my weekly visits to wineries in Napa and Sonoma. But many creative folks in the wine industry have figured out how to replicate tasting room experiences in the comfort of your own home. Here are three wineries to help you get your party started.

The Wine Foundry & Anarchist Wine Co.

Want a virtual tasting of wines you hand-select? Just purchase four wines from The Wine Foundry (usually allocated, but now open to all) or Anarchist Wine Co. (the retail cousin of the custom winemaking operation), and you can schedule a 45-minute tasting session with Stuart Ake, a wine educator with a down-to-earth style and deep wine knowledge. To purchase wine and schedule a tasting, email events@thewinefoundry.com (This is an ongoing program available year 'round, but especially apropros during a pandemic.)
